Borrowed from Odia ଓଡ଼ିଶା (oṛiśā), in turn derived from Sanskrit ओड्रदेश (oḍradeśa, literally “land of the Odras”), a compound of ओड्र (oḍra, “Odra”) + देश (deśa, “land, country”).
