Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *wānam (sky). Cognate with Kannada ಬಾನು (bānu), Tamil வானம் (vāṉam) and Telugu వాన (vāna). Doublet of വാൻ (vāṉ) and മാനം (mānaṁ).
